A vaccine that has proved 100% effective against the major strains of cancer could be available within a year. Cancer experts say they are delighted with the dramatic test results of the drug Gardasil and believe they have found an effective innoculation. It could mean the end to painful cervical smear tests used to screen women for early signs of the disease.Despite the NHS screening programme cervical cancer still kills 1,000 British women every year.
Trials involving 13 countries,Gardasil has proved 100% effective against the major strains of the Papilloma virus thought to trigger Cervical Cancer. The drug has been developed in a 4yr study involving 12,000 women.
Uh yeh, this is definitely a good thing. I wouldnt' consider smear tests to be immensely painful, but I guess everyone has a different pain threshhold. I'm sure that someone out there will argue that this is wrong, because we can't save everyone from everything, and the world will be too over-populated, and I haven't formulated a reply for that. Thus in admitting this, that last sentence was pointless, but hey. It's true, you can't save people from the inevitable, you can just do all you can and hope it won't be so painful when the eventuality happens.
Er yes you can save them that is the whole point of this kind of treatment, and that of the cures now being developed via stem cells. Multiple Sclerosis is now treatable via innoculation and the treatment works, 1 day there will be a preventative treatment for those diseases this vaccination is only the begining..
Yes, what I'm saying, is you can't prevent people from dying indefinitely.
you will never be able to erradicate illness altogether, because when one illneess is erradicated, another one may appear. the vaxine isn't actually a cure for cervical cancer, it's a vaxine against the two sexually transmitted viruses that are the main cause of cervical cancer, but the vaxine isn't against cancer itself. HAving this vaxine will almost erradicate the cancer, but not totally.
Believe me 1 day that may be entirely possible, 1 day your children may be able to take a gene for an iminent disease, as we would swallow a pill. Work is going on right now to make us immortal, personally the idea horrifies me, as living is hard enough in the average human life span. Also, if the treament should fail, would the aging process be accelerated..it's a step too far.
i agree with post 5
i don't usually do this, but i urge every female on this site to get the vaccination, have every female she knows get the vaccination. one of the std's that causes cervical cancer is small enough to pass through condoms, and men don't have a clue that they carry it because there are no symptoms to them. so no matter how safe you are, it isn't enough sometimes. get vaccinated. please.
if u ask me, men need to get it as well.
I like the idea of the vaccine. While pap smear's aren't really painful, they're also not fun, either. I sure as hell don't look forward to having them done. Ugh.
I've gotten the first shot already. It's not that bad. There's actually three shots you have to get for the vaccine. For example, my first one was in January, the next one will be in March, and the last one will be given six months thereafter.
i would not bother with it because i have sexual relations with only one person. and seriously, i think people r just too paranoyed about this. but i stand by what i said before, the men should be getting it because they r the carriers
somanea, people aren't paranoid. my life as i knew it went to hell in 2003 due to cervical cancer. and i was having safe sex with only one person. all my dreams of being a mom and all went out the window in 2005 after 3 rounds of cervical cancer and the only option left was a hysterectomy. if this vaccine had come out a few years earlier, i would still have my option to carry my own child someday when i was married and ready.
um yeah, so i urge all to get the vaccination.
oh man. i did not know this. my sincere apologies pipi.
i don't want your apologies. but thank you. not many did until now. and i'm only telling the zone world to stress how important the vaccination is. i've come to terms with what i need to from the result of what i've been through. i just don't want anymore females to go through the hell when there is a way to prevent it.
